Toastmasters in India (Patna, Delhi, Bengaluru and online): how to join, and what to do between meetings

The short answer: Toastmasters is one of the best long-term ways to become a confident speaker, and guests can visit free. Find a club on the official Toastmasters "Find a Club" page. Most clubs meet once or twice a month, so if you have an interview or presentation coming up, add weekly practice in between: SpeakingLab's free online Open Mic runs every weekend, and our speaking rating gives you a scored rep any day.
We ran a Toastmasters club for over two years before starting SpeakingLab. We're fans. We also built SpeakingLab because we saw what happens between meetings: nothing.
How Toastmasters works
- Meetings: members give prepared speeches (about 5 to 7 minutes), short impromptu talks ("Table Topics", 1 to 2 minutes), and evaluate each other.
- Pathways: a structured path of speech projects you work through over months.
- Guests: you can usually visit a few meetings free before joining.
- Cost: a membership fee paid to Toastmasters International, plus a small club fee. Ask the club for current amounts.
Finding a club in your city
Search "Find a Club" on toastmasters.org and enter your city. For example, the official listing shows a Patna Toastmasters Club (chartered 2017) meeting on Sunday mornings; Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Pune and Chennai have many clubs, and several clubs meet only online. Schedules and venues change, so confirm with the club before you go.
What Toastmasters is great at, and where it's slow
| Toastmasters | SpeakingLab | |
|---|---|---|
| Best for | Public speaking, long term | Speaking under pressure: interviews, meetings, calls |
| How often you speak | Every meeting (impromptu), a prepared speech every few meetings | Every session, plus daily AI-scored reps |
| Meets | Usually 2 to 4 times a month | Open Mic every weekend; cohort weekly |
| Feedback | From fellow members | From a host and your group; AI scores between sessions |
| Progress you can see | Pathways levels | A speaking rating and before-and-after scores |
| Cost | Membership fee | Rating, test and Open Mic free; cohort paid |
Many people do both: Toastmasters for the long game, SpeakingLab for the deadline.
If your club has gone quiet
Clubs depend on volunteers, and sometimes a club pauses, merges or moves online. If that happens, check the Find a Club page for an online club, and keep your reps going in the meantime: a rated question a day takes one minute.
